The city that makes being outside feel effortless.

Annecy sits at the foot of the French Alps, wrapped around a lake so clear and blue it almost doesn't look real. It’s a beautiful old town of canals, pastel buildings and cobbled streets, with mountains rising in every direction.

Annecy is the kind of place where the outdoors becomes part of everyday life. Mornings start with a walk along the lake, afternoons disappear on bikes, and there’s always a mountain, swimming spot or little village waiting to be explored.

The old town winds around the Thiou River, with colourful buildings, flower-filled balconies and cafés spilling onto cobbled streets. Beyond the centre, Lake Annecy stretches between the mountains, with beaches, cycle paths and clear water all around its shores.

For families, Annecy feels almost too good to be true. Everything is close, the pace is relaxed, and there’s an endless list of things to do without needing to organise much at all. It’s a place where a normal Tuesday can involve a lake swim, a bike ride and dinner outside.

Everything a Roam destination needs to be.

The lake at the center

Some of the cleanest water in Europe, swimmable all summer, with beaches around the shore and a 40km cycle path circling it. Paddleboards, small boats, mountains rising straight from the water — the outdoors isn't an excursion here, it's what's out the front door.

Market days and mountain food

Tuesday, Friday and Sunday the old town fills with producers from the surrounding valleys — Reblochon, Tomme de Savoie, charcuterie, lake fish. Simple, generous alpine cooking, and a boulangerie on every corner that becomes part of the daily routine.

A town perfect for kids

Everything centres on the old town canals and the lakeside path — flat, largely pedestrianised, and small enough that children learn their way around within days. The Pâquier gives you thirty acres of open grass in the middle of town.

Long evenings, early mornings

Central European time and alpine summer light that holds past 9pm in June and July. A swim in the lake before work, afternoons free once European colleagues sign off. Geneva airport is under an hour away, which makes visitors and quick trips home genuinely easy.

Where you'll live

Four neighborhoods.
One city that feels like yours.

All Roam homes are clustered across four neighborhoods in San Sebastián chosen so families are close to each other, close to camp, and close to everything that makes the city worth living in.

Closest to the water

Sévrier

On the lake's western shore, a few kilometres south of town. Beaches, swimming spots and the lakeside cycle path right there, with mountain views across the water. You'll want a car or the bus for trips into the old town.

Live like locals

Courier

A few streets north-west of the old town, where locals do their shopping. Quieter and more practical for a longer stay — proper supermarkets, everyday amenities, and the canals still only five minutes away.

Most central

Triangle d'Or

The golden triangle between the old town, the Pâquier gardens and the lake itself. The most sought-after address in Annecy, with the water at the end of the road and the market a few minutes' walk.

Most atmospheric

Old Town (Vieille Ville)

The Annecy of the postcards — turquoise canals, the Palais de l'Isle, pastel arcades and a market three mornings a week. Everything is on foot, the lake is five minutes away, and there's a boulangerie on every corner.
